Things I have learnt this year

This year has been one for massive change.

I’ve stopped accepting contra deals for a start. And you should too. Contra does not pay your bills, nor will it give you a stellar result, and seriously did you really need that service in the first place?

I’ve also worked out what I want to do, and what I don’t want to do anymore, and it has seen me move more toward business setup rather than ongoing support.

Why you may ask? Well really I have found that a lot of people just don’t know what they need, and spend so much time on the things that really don’t matter.

My message in the past has been consistent. Outsourcing means you can spend time on the stuff that you know and love how to do, rather than things that you have no clue or interest in.

So have I taken my own advice? Absolutely.  This is what I have outsourced this year.

  1. Contracts administration – I don’t know the law, nor do I claim to. But trying to do this myself could end me up in hot water. So instead for employment contracts and a few other legal matters including membership applications and terms of use, I have outsourced to Melissa Demarco of Demarco Law  and Jeanette Jifkins from Onyx Online Law and I now have the rear end covered. I can’t recommend Melissa more for anything to do with industrial relations – she is an absolute gun. Online Contracts and presence are Jeanette’s specialty.
  2. Bookkeeping – If I had my time over, well I would have gotten a bookkeeper involved from the day I started my business to set everything up correctly. This is not an expense that you should say you can’t afford. In honesty, had I done it from the get go, it would have saved me a lot of time and energy as well as money. I would like to give a shout out to Sylvia Triffit for her help in this area.
  3. Accountant – I have been very lucky again to have Selina Trace from Alegre Accounting Solutions. She has been a gun with her assistance from personal tax returns to complicated business set up and returns.
  4. Housekeeping – I now have a cleaner and let me tell you it is saving me so much of my sanity! The time it takes me to do housework and the time I don’t have makes this a very easy decision. Thank you Tracey x

What I am saying is get a good team around you. Ask for help, and pay for it for the best result.
